April Review: Molly’s Favourite Tunes Released This Month

April 2020; London has been in lockdown the entire month. One month without pubs, clubs, restaurants, spending time with friends, going to gigs (list could go on forever!). However, there’s many positives in spite of all this, including some sick tunes dropped by some very talented ladies across the globe! Here’s a few of my favourite’s that were released this month;

Top of my list is Kathleen Frances with her debut single DEFINE which dropped on the 3rd of April. She not only wrote this song but completely self-produced and mixed the track also! She describes her single as being about learning to define herself after being single for 2 years. She also featured on our latest episode of The Cosy Corner which I highly recommend you listen to as she had a lot to say! Her debut song has had a huge response and was recently played on Phil Taggart’s BBC Radio 1 show. We’re so excited for you Kathleen and we can’t wait to see what’s coming next!

I’ve had this song on loop since I first heard it! Another completely self-written, self-produced, mixed and mastered track, Sophie DeMasi’s debut single Don’t Let Her has had a massive response with more than 20k streams on Spotify already. Her emotional debut single will especially relate to people who feel like they’re losing someone they love to someone else. At only 20 years old, Sophie DeMasi is making big moves and I think we’ll be seeing her name everywhere soon!

India Shawn released her first EP, Origin, in 2012 and has since worked with artists such as Chris Brown, Diddy-Dirty Money and Keri Hilson. Her experimental RnB tunes include spiritual and emotional influences which reflects in her single CALI LOVE which was released earlier this month. When listening to this song I mentally transport from London to LA, lying under the Palm Trees on Venice Beach and endless strolls round Santa Monica. She also dropped another single this month NOT TOO DEEP (feat 6LACK) which already has over 600k streams on Spotify.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Hazel English but she was one of my favourite artists in 2017 with her double EP Just Give In/Never Going Home and I’ve been waiting for her to drop and album ever since! The Australian singer/songwriter released her debut album Wake Up! last week and song Combat has already almost 700k streams on spotify. She says the album is an attempt to “make people become more aware and mindful” in their lives. I would personally describe her sound as ‘Lana Del Rey meets The Beatles’ but go decide for yourself!

Emily Burns blew up at the end of 2019 with her ballad Is It Just Me? which now has over 6 MILLION streams on Spotify! Her latest single Press Pause is also showing the same promising future. Emily recently completed a European tour with James Arthur and was expecting to go on a UK headline tour this April (which has been postponed for obvious reasons). The pop singer’s lyrics are honest and touching and I think everyone will find a bit of themself in her music!

Of course I have to finish off this list with not only my best friend but other half of Symilar, Sya Sanon’s debut single DOPE which dropped on Monday! Sya works incredibly hard and puts 100% into everything she does which reflects completely in her debut single. The French RnB song shows inspiration from Ariana Grande with the countless harmonies and soft yet powerful vocals. Sya also directed and edited the photography and music video (which will be out soon!). LOVE YOU, SYA! X

That’s my list done! Which one of these tunes are our favourite? And what are your favourite tunes released this month? Let me know over on insta!
